I don't agree with the M3 information -- red run group Summit Point -- late model M3s and nearly 20 year old SC seem to be fairly close. Your car should be faster then my SC. Certainly the difference is not enough to consider that one blew the doors off the other. But lets consider, late model 911 vs. M3, now we are talking about lost doors. BMW was dominant in a series in this country, but what was that with, a one-off with their V-8 motor? BMWs are probably better if you haul around a couple extra people, and you can even select that station wagon Z3 thing where you could pile a few bags of athletic gear, track tires, soccer *****, golf clubs, and a bicycle -- sort of a mini-suv with a long hood -- try that in a 911.

Yo jet911

I had the 1, 2, 3 synchros replaced at ~110K miles, and they needed a GOOD 1K miles to properly break in. The shifting improved considerable over that time. I noticed improvment over the first couple of thousand miles By the time I sold it, it was as smooth as a G50 (well maybe not quite...). Just make sure you have the oil changed out at about 1K miles.

Yo Dreck help me out here...

[quote] Yeah I guess that would've gone way over budget.

[quote] If M3's are passing you, maybe you should stop lifting.

Why do some people feel the need to offer just plain nasty comments? Does this make one feel vital and important?

[quote] Be well,...

Be well? Do you indeed mean this? Your preceeding comments would indicate otherwise.

Cheers,
Chris

Wow - Such a string of nasty and a few positive responses.......and you all call me defensive....

I won't even address the "over budget" comment around the $24 bucks...... talk about a mental midget..........

I own both a BMW (not an M3 but a 528i for family driving) and a 911. I have owned BMWs for many years and they are great cars. I love and have driven and owned many other sport's cars over the years including 50's vintage MGA's (a twin cam),a '60 Austin Healy 100-6 and others. I love my P-car as well, but it is not the only car out there. I'm not so narrow sighted to believe that there is only one of anything that is the best.

Yep I probably don't know how to drive a Porsche to it's limits and really don't care to do that as I want the car to last the rest of my driving life (plus I do want to see 60).

Sorry about the strong words "blow the doors off." However when on the track or street you must take everything into consideration. Yep when constantly cornering, the 911 is probably unbeatable, but when taking "everything" into cosideration that may not be the case as race results show.

Sorry boys - it appears everyone needs to take a valium and a shot of Jack (or in my case Johnny Black)..........

Can't wait to see the blasting I get now....

Regards,
Jim

Wink

What race results are you referring to?

I believe that GT-3 is closest to what we have available as current production based series.

My data point was Summit Point, 10 turns, very long straight with downhill about the midway point all the way to the braking zone, entered at around 90mph. Top-end should be a factor.

What year M3 is thrashing your 911? My 91 Honda Civic would "blow the doors off" my old 57 Carrera Speedster ( - it was the one that got away) in just about every venue but style.

Alan,
Not referring to any particular race, not really a race junkie nor do I really care as tomorrow there's something else that will superseed yesterday. I can't even recall the exact articles or races. Hell the US Open is on now and I can't recall who Samprus beat two matches ago (senior moments is what I call them). However watching races, mostly modifieds, on TV in Europe, US and Canada, and reading articles in R&T, MT etc., where P-teams, Jaguar teams, Honda teams, BMW teams, etc., racing in differnt classes, P-cars don't seem to get the checkered as often as others.

Geez, P-cars are great cars no doubt... they do well and have a great history, I own one too, but they are not the only cars, nor do they win all the races....... nor do all the great drivers drive P-cars.... If P-cars were the very, very best, why do not the world's greatest drives drive them.......

Probably just opened up another can of worms......

Time for another shot......... After all it's Friday and in a couple of hours, I'll get to drive my 911 home and have some fun.....got to watch out for those M3's however... next it will be a vette or a viper... the trials of driving a 911....... then the whole bashing starts again...

Regards,
Jim

Jet,
Why mental midget? They are $24. I don't understand you response?
Porsche isn't racing F-1 presently, that's why you don't see it in the group you mentioned. BTW, the BMW that your seeing in the results is just the engine. Frank Williams is taking care of the chassis. You might see P-car occaisionally in GT, just maybe.
Be well,
druck

druck,

Ok, maybe I just misread you from the start. Your comments seemd a bit insulting.

I know the cost of parts. They are easily avail through Pelican, Vertex, etc.

My point was that I am trusting the mechanic. I suggested total rebuild - he said not necessary, I said OK. He said his work was covered for 12/12K. I went with his call.

Enough on the subject.

The tranny is beginning to shift well after about 500 miles. He was right.

By the way I was wrong. Actually in the last issue of Panorama there is a great story "The 24 hours of Le Mans," stating that during the 2002 season Porsche has had eight straight GT victories.

Peace....

Regards,
Jim
