New brake cooling.....the start of a busy couple of weeks
I've had some 993 brake cooling deflectors in stock for some time now. I've got the AJ ducts, but always wondered how effective they are. These deflectors first came to my attention a few years ago on Jack Olsen's car. To me, they are elegant in their simplicity and will seemingly divert nice fresh air on to my beautiful 309mm X 32mm rotors. Did I mention they are one of the cheapest investments I've made in seeking a performance gain?
So, on they went. Simply a matter of setting them against the A arms and determining where the zip ties would go, then drilling some holes. You can see the various stages in the pics below.
I now sit with one of Fidel's finest and a cold Blue Moon while the oil drains. Tomorrow morning, a valve adjust and new oil (although I forgot I robbed a valve cover gasket out of my set-so had to order a new one).
Next week, or so, brake flush and my new wheels and tires.....

I know-I was too lazy to take the front wheels off and yank them. This way, I can see if there is any problem with the new ones too, then I can pull the old. They probably have some value on ebay...

Ed I'll be very interested to see if you think they cool as well or better than the A arm scoops. I tried the A arm scoops and they did zero for my cooling so I now have hoses coming from my IROC bumper, homemade Smart Racing manifolds, then more hose to the same rotor ducts from the A arm kit. It was a lot of work and I sure hope it was worth it. Unfortunately I am stuck with tiny stock SC rotors due to class rules so I need all the cooling I can get. Let us know how they work for you.

those 993 air deflectors remind me of the ones on my stock 84 928s.
I have a set of the A-arm scoops I got from Paragon that use plastic scoops and metal backing plates on my 85 911. I don't know if they have helped or not, since I have no baseline temp readings of my rotors from before to compare. I had upgraded my front brakes to the Boxster 4 piston calipers several years ago and never encounter any heat fading for the 20-30 min DE sessions. but due to encountering rotor warp issues I decided to try to improve cooling with the ducts as well as going from drilled to slotted rotors. now that I run DE solo, on the instructor/A group open track days I sometimes am out on the track for >30 min and do not encounter any noticeable fade.
when I originally installed the ducts, I was startled on my first track event. on a couple places on the track where my speed was high, I started getting a lot of plastic banging sounds. thought for sure one of the scoops had come loose. pull into pits, nothing appeared to be wrong. it took a couple of these episodes for me to finally see that peices of tire rubber were getting caught in the scoops and rattling around inside the scoop. I had put a mesh screen between the scoop and the hose to prevent debris from being scooped up and blown up into the rotor.
I'll watch for your posting on how well they work. good luck.
