Default 915 Help

Just rebuilt the 915 and installed Wevo shifter, shift coupler and gate shift kit. The car is setup for track and occasionally take it out on the street. I am having issues with down shifts primarily with 3-2 and minor with 4-3, the clutch cable has been adjusted and feels good. This leads me to believe that the issue is with the clutch. When replacing the clutch what one would be best suited for 85/15 track/street use?

what makes you think it is the clutch ? Sounds more like a synchro issue or shifter adjustment.

I've never used/installed,adjusted the after market parts that you're using, but; what are the issues? Not enough side movement in neutral (3-2)? Stiffness with shifting (both) into a gear? Difficulty removing the shifter from the engaged gear?

The issue is when downshift from 3 to 2 there is quite a bit of grinding, tranny has new syncros.

I do believe that you did something wrong. Is this the '84 Carrera in your signature? I have a few questions, but I want to find out year/model before spending time unnecessarily...

OK, did the 2nd gear synchro, the new one, have a groove in it, or not. When you replaced the slider did you notice that 2nd speed has symmetrical dog teeth, and that 1st speed has asymmetrical dog teeth, which means that the slider can go one way only? What was your installed measurement for the new 2nd speed synchro? When you set your shift forks did you use a jig?

I have no intention of insulting your ability level, training, etc., but I've got to start somewhere.

No offense taken, a local shop rebuilt the tranny and has rebuilt quite a few 915/G50's. My assumption is that the transmission was rebuilt correctly and that is why I going towards clutch. However, if what I am describing does not sound like clutch or clutch adjustment, then I am assuming from your above post is that 1/2nd gears were not installed/ rebuilt correctly.

Thanks for the help,

Greg

Why was the gearbox rebuilt?
Did the gearbox grind in the same manner before the rebuild?
What gearbox oil are you running?
What do you currently have in there for a clutch?
I am taking for granted that when the gearbox was out the clutch was examined, so what condition was it reported to be in and how long ago was that in terms of use?
Who installed the WEVO bits?

Unless you have added a lot more power than your car suggests a Sachs Sport disc and OEM cover will be just fine.
