SSI/ Exhaust Questions
When I purchased the car it had ssi's installed. I drive the car primarily for track with occasional street driving. My question is are there other headers that would work better than the ssi's when coupled with the appropriate muffler? Eventually I will be changing from fi to pmo's in the future and did not know if that would change the thought process as well.

The differences between headers and SSI's on a stock 3.0 are pretty small, but there are some things to consider.
Headers allow improved airflow over the heads and cylinders and for track use, this is an advantage. Lower cylinder head temps mean more power, lower oil temps, and extended longevity.
Headers allow a lot more flexibilty for track type muffler systems and those CAN make more power than a SSI/sport muffler combo.

I like the SSI with a monty muffler. I have traked many cars with this set up and it works great. I also like the Danske stainless mufflers. Monty is my first pick.

There are better performing mufflers for certain, but they will be considerably louder than the Dansk.

I use European Racing Headers and a M&K muffler. The set up is very light and quiet. The car registers 94 dB measured 50' on the right of the exit of T5 at Laguna Seca. I have not compared other headers and mufflers on an engine dyno. My 3.0 L motor has PMO's and a very mild motor. This combination has a very nice hp and torque curve on a chassis dyno. The M&K muffler is very light, saving allot of weight versus a Dansk. You don't need heat for a track car do ditch the SSI's. Steve Weiner can provide you with the exhaust. I got mine from M&K and Smart Racing Products, who also make the Phase 9 mufflers.

I have a set of B&B headers (it's their mufflers that get the bad rap for quality) and a Flowmaster muffler. The sound is awesome, and the power ain't so bad either....
As to the M&K muffler mentioned above-the workmanship and pricing look good-but I've yet to see any data on power with one exception, and that wasn't good.

Ed, please explain your comment on the M&K muffler in more detail.

It has always been my understanding that SSIs aren't the optimal size for a 3.2 and are better suited to the 3.0 engines but I'm sure Steve and others can correct me if I'm wrong.
