The short veresion is the main support bow (the one that crosses over the top just behind the seats) for the top broke on the drivers side at a height just even with the top of the window. It sheared off as if it had been cut with a hack saw.
Questions
1. Where can I get a detailed schematic of the support and drive system
2. Is it possible to take this bow out without taking the top off.
3. Any rcomendation on an approach to fixing this.
4. Any recomendations on someone with the skill to fix the problem. I am located in the central coast to Califormia, 90 miles norht of Sanata Barbra
Any help will be appreciated

I have the same 1987 power top on my car. I had a motor stop working and broke the top in the same spot. In 1987 the bow is a 3piece top. It is riveted but the individual parts can be ordered seperately. Even though my porsche dealer said it could not. I have an extensive wiring diagram, and a ton of experience with these tops. I sure wished I would have put a manual top on my car...but that is another story. If you want to email me. I can copy my diagrams as well as give you the proper parts numbers to do your repair
