Default Help!! Drilled hole through tunnel into fuel line. 911SC

HELP!!! I am in the process of removing the stock drivers seat shelves to install a race seat. Using a spot-weld cutting bit, I drilled too agressively in the center tunnel when drilling out the seat shelf for the drivers seat, so on the left side of the tunnel. I drilled through the tunnel and immediately smelled gas. So:

1. Which line did I drill through?
2. How do I remove the gas from the tunnel?
3. How do I go about replacing the fuel line?

Thanks in advance.

I would do a search of existing BB threads on Pelicanparts.com as Cal suggested, prior to posting a question on their website. You may find it already answered, and if not, you can post a more penetrating question/ title like: 911SC replace fuel line, engine in car.

I would replace the fuel line with the factory hard line. Getting the new one in might be a bit of work. Maybe you can use the shifter hole, I don't know.

You have to determine whether you cut the pressure or the return line before you order the new one. No big deal.

I am in the process of ordering racing seats for my 85 911. why did you have to drill out the old brackets? just could not remove the bolts/screw?

my interest is to avoid repeating your experience. thanks.

I think he was drilling out the spot welds to remove the angle steel. The racing seats must be wider than the stock mounts. Could have cut them out with a Sawzall, but I think drilling is cleaner. I probably would have used a die grinder.

I'm getting ready to post a thread about mounting my new seat. I'm going to attempt to use the stock rails as a foundation. My guess is that he was removing the stock rails to lower the seat height.

Sorry to hear about the fuel line. Unfortunately, there are others that have posted similar episodes. As mentioned, a search should give you some insight.

I always appreciate reading "how to" threads, since so many modded 911s that you see are already done. You don't get a feel for the struggle that went into getting them that way.

Thanks for the advice about Pelican Parts. I found what I needed there. I will be able to replace the OE return line without dropping engine and trans. For those of you interested in some pics of what I am doing, check out (Help: Race Seat Install 74-89 911) on the racing forum. I am 6 ft 1 and wanted to have as much clearance from helmet to roll cage as possible. I removed the seat shelves so I can fabricate a frame to which I will bolt side-mounts for my race seat. Seat is Cobra Evolution S Technology in GT width (Fat ***) with Brey Krause side-mounts (Cobra mounts were too wide).

Using a grinder to remove the shelves would have been safer, but damn thats a lot of steel to grind. I just need a more practiced hand using the spot weld cutting bit. Nothing blew up, and all will be together, clean, and painted by the NASA event in 12 days at VIR.

Don,
This will sound stupid, but I presume your tunnel does not have a removeable steel cover? On the 993, a full-length steel plate covers the tunnel, so everything is visible once this is removed.

No full-length cover on a 911.

Wouldn't that be nice (full-length cover). I wish. I bought tube to form splices and a 4' length of fuel injection hose, assuming that fuel injection hose will be more durable (to handle fishing it through the other things in the tunnel) because it has to handle more pressure. It will not go in until all welding and grinding are complete.
