Default Oil pump update

Engine in question is a '74 911.

With a new style oil pump (911-107-008-05) there is also a update kit (911-107-008-kit) which includes 2 new pressure relief pistons 2 relief springs one long and one short, and one spring guide + a different sump plate. Also the bypass mod. has to be done to the case. Is there a tech bulletin for the installation of this kit?

The reason I ask is I'm having a problem with high oil pressure. When I installed the kit I used the long spring and the guide pin in the pressure relief valve opening, this would be the port that points up from under the engine. I used the shorter spring in the safety valve that points horizontally. Is this correct? What happens when the safety valve sticks?

You installed the springs correctly, and hopefully, the correct pistons in their respective holes.

The safety valve is there to protect the oil cooler.

Did you do the bypass mod to the case?????

Yes the mod was done to the case. The pistons used were the new type that are solid (no holes) with a groove around the center.

ETA: Any ideas what to look for that would cause high oil pressure. On a cold start up at 2000 rpm's pressure is reading 140 and a little more rpm's the gage is pegged out. Once warmed up at 3200 rpm's I'm looking at about 60 psi. I did change the sending unit with no change.
