Default Two problems just solved erratic idling and clutch

Well i had a problem with my idling for sometime now and couldn't figure it out. It would bounce from 900 to 12oo plus at times and was very annoying. The problem started after a rain and the car didnt start, this was last year. Replaced the idle control unit and it fixed the problem for a day then started all over again. I looked for vacuum leaks, O2 sensor. Then a mechanic (i'll give his name if anyone needs him) adjusted the mixture and the idle and fixed it once and for all!!! No more bouncing, its been over two weeks now and looks like the problem is solved. It does it once in the cold mornings for about 2 minutes then levels off and you can hear the motor calming down.

Next problem i had was my clutch wouldn't pop back up. It would have pressure going towards the floor, but id have to lift it with my foot. I almost ran into someone, so glad that problem was fixed.

Anyways the fix for that was the slave cylinder front rubber ring was worn. So it wold have pressure going down, but not back up. This was fixed with an O-ring underneath the original and looks like that problem was solved too.

My car is an 88 targa

Great news BC
Why not jump in with both feet ?

Show us some pics of your car and how you cam about her.

PS hunting idle is somewhat common and is due to a rich mixture. A good mech with an exhaust analyser was definitely the way to go ..

welcome aboard

Welcome BC. sounds like your idle issue could have had several causes. Glad it is fixed.

Mine did it after I replaced the airbox. Smoothed right out after my CO adjustment.

You can adjust the mixture on a 3.2?
SC yes, I don't think on a Carrera.
I hate to tell you this but it's a sporadic problem and will be back.
Ask me how ($$$) I know .....

I dont have a pic but the solution is very simple. Its a small O-ring ( from kragen) that fits around your pinky. Its an Oring set

Just remove the old rubber and dont damage it more. its flanged on the outer ends to make a tight seal. then once removed put the Oring on first, then put the old rubber on top of the Oring. The o-ring may cost about 5cents.

And yes once the CO mixture was adjusted. it leveled off that instant. It was fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it on the slave cylinder on the transmission or in the pedal cluster. Tha's why a picture would help.

Thanks.

BC, the slave cylinder for the clutch is mounted on the transmission. You must be talking about another boot. A picture would be helpful. Thanks.
