Default Racing Transmission Builder - Who is best?

A guy I used to share an endurance ride with started a biodiesel company a few years ago and now is getting ready to build a turbo diesel powered race car. The car, seen below, will have a 911 transmission, but he needs one that can handle 650HP Ford diesel and all the attendant torque. Anyone care to suggest a good builder?

Car pictured below; also detail of Z06 engine normally in car. The roll cage will be beefed up, as much for rigidity as for safety.

Brian Copans does the transmissions for all the ALMS and Grand Am 911s and is located in Cincinnati. (513) 779-3302

There are several competent builders, but the issue wont be the rebuild, it will be getting something to handle the torque itself.

That's FFR's setup isn't it? Do they have any suggestions? I thought they were looking at the G50 in that configuration? Local guy here says G50's are good reliably built for 450hp, after that they need "significant tweaking" says he. Me? I dunno, I got me a 915...

One of my local car club guys had an FFR Cobra, very nicely built one too.

EDIT:
Hmm, RI plates too. Plate number looks familiar. I wonder if Neil moved from his Cobra to the GTR I think it's called?

I think its a GTM....I keep threatening to build a FFR kit one of these days.

Why not go with a trans out of a GT3 cup car? They have to have a head start on what they can handle torque-wise over a G50....

IMHO, you'll not ANY Porsche gearbox that will handle that kind of torque.

I think your friend should be looking at an Xtrac or Riccardo such as what the Audi R10 uses since those make similar torque & HP at those low revs.

We can help you with this. We build a ton of the GTM Transaxles. I can certainly build one that will handle the HP and Torque for you. Sorry that I did not see this sooner. Give me a call on Monday and I will be happy to help. I have a complete setup for the GTM with everything that you are going to need from the engine back, save prohaps the adaptor plate.

Happy to help with this though. We build a ton of the GTM gearboxes, and sponsored the GTM-R that recently did really well in the 25 hour endurance event at Thunderhill.

I look forward to speaking with you and hopefully being a part of your build.

Eric: thanks for posting.

Dennis and Mitch are trying to work out now on paper if there is enough radiator area available in the car to cool and intercool the engine. They will give you a call when they get past this challenge.

I must have met you somewhere as I have your business card.
