Question Tune-up options for 3.0L

I need some advise as to what parts to use for the tune-up of my 3.0 L 911. What I need to know is which…

·ignition wires to use
·which plugs to use
·what distributor cap and rotor to get

Here is what I have on the car now…

·Plugs: Bosch Super R6 268
·Wires: Magnecor KV85 Competition
·Coil: High Intensity Ignition Coil PS91

Some issues…

·I just installed Weber Carbs
·The car’s fuel mixture is set a little rich
·One of the plugs was misfiring…it was missing at the low end
·The rotor seems worn and the distributor cap points are worn
·Should I increase the heat range of the plugs?
·Do I go to NGK plugs with the new multi prong design?
·Do I keep the 8.5 wires or run 8.0 wires?

So, what would you suggest for the following components?

·Distributor & Rotor:
·Plug Wires:
·Plugs:

Thanks,

Roy Wilkinson

Can't advise on plugs except to say in my opinion this era of Porsche engine works best with recommended stock plugs (hotter or colder depends on mixture etc. so can't advise the correct No. as you have carbs) it seems to me the latest designs of plugs are more prone to technical failure.
Replace the dist ' cap and rotor with the recommended Porsche items , they are fine. If the plug wires are in good condition (8.0 or 8.5 isn't an issue) they shouldn't need replacing for up to 15,000 miles or more. My stock leads have seen 144,000 miles don't leak and meet all stock performance meter tests. I'll change them when there is a misfire .

carbs on a 3.0 sounds like fun.. before you figure out the plugs maybe you should consider an MSD ignition..........Ron

I have a 77 911s with the 3.0 swap using webbers with stock wires, cap and rotor. The rotor melted and cracked to bits yesterday. I am hoping it was just a bad rotor. The car is fast and the engine is tuned pretty well. I will let you know what plugs I have on Thursday.

I'd spend a nominal amount and get the car on a dyno to figure out what's what. We had enough problems figuring out carbs-on-a-CIS-engine in the '80s and '90s when we had "real" gas. Couldn't even imagine tuning by ear now.............

I think he should check the distributor shaft for radial play. Chances are it's time to rebuild the dizzy.
