Default What widths 17" wheels can I use?

I want a second set of wheels to use at the track. I am planning to run Toyo R1R or R888 (or maybe Hoosiers some day). Looks like I might have a better selection of tires if I went to 17" wheels.

SO... who knows what width wheels will work in a 17" diamter? I was planning to use Fuch 16x7 and 16x8 if I stayed with 16. Can I use the 7" and 8" in a 17? I want to leave the fenders stock.

I thought I'd post this here before trying the Racing/DE Forum. It's a little more friendly here They seem to think the track is no place for a Cabriolet. I would agree... were I rich enough to buy a coupe too.

And if anyone thinks I should stay with 16, let me know. That is really my preference, but I don't want to severly limit my tire choices.

Shannon do you need the tires to tuck ? I have 7s and 9s but they do not quite tuck under. I imagine you would need this at the track no ? Offsets will also become important if you do . Somewhere once i saw a tire guide that was really good. It may be hee somewhere.

I guess that's what I'm trying to find out... how wide can I go before I rub? I don't want to roll my fenders.

Do you have 7/9 x16? or 7/9 x 17?

I would first figure out what size tires you wish to use and then decide on a rim width. Every tire has a specific range of 'approved rim width'.

Exactly!

And there are sometimes pretty large differences in tire widths from different manufacturers in the same sizes.

I've run 7.5/9 X 17's and 8/9 X 17's on my Carrera. Don't forget to address the offsets too. For instance, you'll never get a 9" wheel in 50mm offset on in the back.
