My new professionally restored all original rims. (pics)
Okay, by 'new', I mean 'new to me' or used. By 'professionally restored' I mean it was me with a rattle can. And by 'all original' I mean they didn't come with car, the paint scheme is not factory, and I had to improvise for the centre caps because I was too cheap to buy real ones. Enjoy.
The only thing I am not happy with is that the off white paint 'yellowed' a little one me. I don't think it liked the clear coat I used or there was a bad interaction between the base coat and the top coat; two different paints.

Was it the clear coat that caused the yellowing Mat ? You can allways take them off and redo them in the off season.
I think your right . the yellow makes it look like a dog pissed on your rims ..

Ya, I don't know what it was. I think I was worried about the rims turning out more 'white' than the car, now that would have looked weird. It could have also been the fact that it was old paint, left over from when I had a VW.
VW 'alpine white'. It seems to be a very close match to 'grand prix white' and is available at Canadian tire in a spray can. I used it for my head light trim rings and it is damn close. Now if only we could get Ian to paint his head light trim rings as well......

Mat I swear you are actually cheaper than me ... I may have some old paint left over from touching up the white stove if you wanna try that next .
I can't quite make out the centre though , what did you use ?
I imagine you use these cookie cuters to put snows on. what did you put on ?

What colour were your wheels before Matt? I know we parked next to each other at the winery, but I never noticed your rims. I guess I was too busy drooling over your lipstick red interior.

Clive,
Speaking of cheapness and centre caps. They are the bottoms off those tall boy beer cans. I just didn't feel like paying the more for the centre caps than I did for the rims. They fit perfectly and just needed a bit of silicon to seal them up. I was stupid at first because I put them on, sealed them, and then took the tires to get mounted. They can had to knock them out because you can't balance them with a cap in place. Boy did I feel stupid. Yup...snows, for the trek to Manitoba in Jan. Should be a blast. I tried them out today in a snowy field, that car sure does grip with all the weight back there. Tires are Michelans X-ice Xi2s. Some of the best out there.
Justin,
Before I had 16" fuchs with black centres.

Haven't gone really far in it. Just pissing around the parking lot type of deal but so far it is quite good. Start and stops in a snowy field have been quite well. There is no reason that with those tires and that car it should have problems. I did get the mud flaps that pelican sells and I am no impressed at all with those.
MDL,
Just re-read your post, sorry about the delay. Don't send me your rims - they will get lost in customs, and I will do a bad job like I did on these. Those aren't polished or anodized lips, they are painted silver flake. Just rattle can your rims and you won't feel guilty about driving your car in the rain or dirt. And if you don't like the end result, not like you lost a lot of money in the process.

Matt, I usually don't like anything that isn't a Fuch wheel on a 911. But those are really pretty cool.
I may have to check those out for my track tires. What are they?
