...I've managed to borrow a B-K harness guide bar for my Targa while I continue to look for a used one. The lender inherited it - it wasn't installed in his car, so I would appreciate it if someone could tell me: 1. are the existing bolts in my car(I'm assuming they're the OEM bolts) long enough to accomodate the harness bar where it mounts horizontally to the seat belt bolts at the B pillars? 2. Anything unique to installing this bar that I should know about? (I'm planning on usuing 6 point harnesses).
Thanks in advance....

John,
You can always contact BK at info@bkauto.com or call them at 610.867.1401. If there's any installation bolts, maybe they might even send them to you.
As far as any other advice, make sure the venue you're going to use your harness with allows you to use them with stock seats, if that's what you have. Our PCA region, and some others, requires a seat made to accomodate a harness in order to use one on the track (not autocross). This reason for this is that the harness can slide off your shoulders or slide up the back of the stock Porsche seat in a critical situation.

I had one of the BK bars when my car was a targa. The stock bolts were plenty long enough. Get the top brace bolted in, then you can figure out the length of the downlinks.

Bill,
As usual, thank you for the heads-up on whether the PCA region will allow this setup to be used with stock seats (which I have). It's Metro NY's event at the Glen next week, so I'll e-mail them.
Thom,
Appreciate your input as well. Will measure the belts accordingly (assuming I can use this setup). BTW, what did you do with your bar? I'm still looking for one.

John:
I'd like to add another data point. I had ( at one time) a B-K bar, and I ended up using 5 point belts. First..Bill's advice is correct about using seats with slots that allow shoulder harnesses...much better. I find with my stock seats, and the location of the guide loops on the bar, ..that the likelihood of belts slipping off is remote. If you're still worried about this, you may want to criss-cross the belts ( behind the seat) before they drape over the front. Would make belt slippage almost impossible. This assumes that you're using long shoulder belts, and are mounting correctly to a hard point at the rear ( rear seat belt mounts are good), and NOT to the harness bar ! Don't mount shoulder harnesses to the harness bar. Secondly, I would seriously reconsider using 5 or 6 point belts in a car that doesn't have ( at least) a rear roll cage. Five and six point belts lock you in-place so solidly , ( unlike 3 point that allows you to roll sideways)...that a serious roll-over may cause spinal compression without the protection of a roll-over bar. Some say I'm crazy...but once informed...you can then make up your own mind.

I used a DAS bar in my 81SC and also have one in my C2 - pricey but no welding required. Recaro SRD's with 5 point belts anchored to the rear seat mounts.

Wil,
My understanding of the Targa bar is that it is functional as a roll bar. Have heard of Targas that have rolled, and that the bar was effective. While anecdotal, I hope this is not "a Porsche urban (or suburban/rural)legend".
