Almost these cars will need to be repainted eventually...it's just a question of when.
There are restored and, yes, repainted 356's which sell from $200,000+.
Certainly those are a rarer breed than an ordinary air-cooled 911, but the point is that the paint won't last forever and if it's otherwise the right car it will have less and less impact on the value as time marches on.

When done right, it adds value. I've seen some horrific paint jobs, and some absolutely perfect paint jobs. The ones that were properly prepped and used multiple coats of quality matching paint only enhanced the car.
At the recent Concours held in San Diego I spoke with a restorer/historian/enthusiast standing next to a brilliantly restored 356B. He glided his gloved fingers over the front fender and said "Porsche would have been jelious of this one. They never sent a car off the line looking this good."
Just my 2-cents.

I spent way too much money on my mom's old Benz SL last year with a full blown, glass out, every bit of trim removed, completely stripped, respray done by if not the best than one of the best shops in NJ and the comments I have gotten follow the same line. "Better than new"

I'll try to take some this weekend. Its tucked away for its long winters nap. and don't expect too much as its only an 83 380Sl with 50k on it. Like I said before "way too much money" for the value of the car but its been in the family since new.
