Is this the Tea fire in Montecito? We're watching that one closely as we got a house in the evacuation area. Hopefully the car and house are all that are lost - no lives...

This sucks

The fire is raging closer and closer to downtown Santa Barbara, my friend lives downtown and the view takes your breath away, in a bad way The girl I am dating owns a beautiful home in Montecito, she is evacuating. My Professor/Advisor's home has already burned down. It's the Gap fire all over again except 10 times small and 10 times more damaging.

Here's a few shots that I took Thursday night in Santa Barbara. Fortunately, it's done. (111 homes gone,--9 destroyed). Now for the LA area...

and Corona, Yorba Linda, Anaheim Hills. It looks pretty ugly this time. I hope it'll stop where it is now.

it is a fire prone ecosystem

I'm sorry people are losing their houses, but this is to be expected.

The sprawl and the habit of building house on the hilltops for a nice view makes the problem much, much worse.

I agree with randywebb. Last year here in San Diego it was our turn and quite devastating. Even now when I drive through the higher elevations and see burned out shells that once were someones home and I think it is probably a good idea to keep the trees and brush cleared. One the other hand some houses burned down due to hot ash and wind with no trees or brush........go figure.
I care more for the animals.

It's very sad regardless of the reason that people are losing their homes to this wildfire. Even if you are fully insured and get back the financial compensation, it can never replace the memories found in all that you possess. My sisters house burned down last year and her biggest losses were her diaries from when she was a kid and her old year books.
