I narrowed my Search. Its a 74 carrera Targa, completly restored. I mean everything is new, Engine, new paint, new interior....everything is done. Its Yellow/Black.
Now the prices vary from 25K to 50K. Its my buddy's car and I want to offer him something reasnable. I saw a 74 Carrera in the same condition at the German Auto fest this past year and the Guy wanted $50K. I dont know if it sold or not.
What do you fellas think?

I believe they made 246 '74 Carrera targas, so 25k for a real nice one might be a deal. The stigma of the 2.7 is the downside, but with a rebuilt original engine I would think the car has a lot of upside. Maybe not the car to buy right now to flip for a big profit, but nice car to drive while it appreciates.

I want to stick to a older 911 for now. I never buy a car as an investment, but I dont want to take the deprication hit like I did on the newer 911s I recently sold. Plus this Car is practiclly brand new, less than 250 miles since it was restored.

Carlo,
I think you'll really enjoy that car,...
Having owned my '74 Carrera since new, I can tell you first-hand, how much fun they are to drive as they are really underrated.

I had a cinamon on tan, 74 carrera targa, it was a great car, If it was a coupe I would still have it 25 years later... they have really gotten expensive. If the motor was properly done it should be as bulletproof as an sc, and with a much better exhaust, more nimble handling, and it has become something of a rarity nowadays...hard to go wrong at $25k if it's correct, $50k is too much for my blood, in this market who knows, you may be getting close to 73 prices...

Since no P-Cars are investments right now, thank you poor economy, it is possible though that when the market recovers, the scarcity of a '74 Carerra Targa will be something some would pay a premium for. However, for 1/2 the money I would pick up an SC and wouldn't worry about loosing money, or for the same $$, pick up a G50 3.2 or a 964.

74 carrera targa
I have a 74 carrera targa GP white, great car.
I really like the look of the car compared to the later imapact cars, cleaner lines and a real blast to throw around, no heat, no air, no worries.
Enjoy
Mike

Hi everyone,
I thought I would revive the thread and get more opinions and see if they have changed at all.
I'm looking at a '74 US spec Carrera Targa w/77k miles. Car was just completely restored (including bare metal respray) with original motor ( but complete rebuild w/ tensioners, new studs, etc.). Car looks pristine, no rust, but is not in original color (is now signal green). Interior is perfect, but the new leather doesn't match what original should look like.
Anyone have any thoughts on value? Any recent sales?
Thanks,

It doesn't sound like an investment to me, just a really nice car. 25 K can get you into a pretty wide array of really nice aircooleds... But what do your wallet and your heart say ?
If you look around, there is another thread about 74 Carreras going. Look for some pictures of Steve's car, if you really want to drool.
