It's in all 84-89 Carreras. It's a open/closed switch... depending on altitude.

Default The mysterious Altitude sensor module

The part is located under the drivers side seat on a USA model production car. It Is located just to the side of the DME control box, sort of like a hat shaped item, sort of like a large dash pot type of unit, then the only other item under that seat would be the DME Control Unit, it is supposed to make corrections to the DMR and then the DME computer gets that signal. That is about all I can remember about it at the present time. Good luck!! Tony.

It's a pressure diaphragm that opens or closes depending on altitude. It's a simple on/off switch that closes when it senses 1000meters or 3250 feet pressure altitude. When closed, the switch decreases the fuel injector pulse width by 6% thereby "leaning out" the AFM for higher altitude operation. I wouldn't think a bad unit would cause starting problems.
