Cool SC's are a bargain

Excellence has the 914 2.0's valued as follows:

so-so 12,992
good 14,772
excellent 19,775

Seems higher then vaulations of the SC's and 84-86 Carreras.

???

Here are the values for the 78 SC:

so-so 15,587
good 17,723
excellent 23,725

Later SC's are several thousand more, and Carreras are several thousand more still (28,100 for an excellent '86 Carrera).

While I enjoy Excellence I don't think it's truely possible for any publication to indicate TODAY'S market condition. I believe that the OP is comparing what we are seeing in this really tough market in 911 prices at the moment to the prices listed for 914's in that article.

I typically focus my daydreaming and planning on my future 911 so I too have noticed lately some really really great deals (seemingly at least) on them but I bet if we looked at people trying to sell a nice 914 we would see a commiserate drop in those prices too at the moment.

Here's hoping for all of us this economy picks back up (after I buy my car of course )

Well 914's and 911 SC's are very different cars. The 914 has now entered the realm of the collectable car. I can't comment on 914 market I don't follow it but I do know excellence's prices for early 911's are typically very low. The are plenty of good deals out there on decent cars, the exceptional ones are still fetching top dollar.

i actually consider the MArket evaluation section of excellence just " filler" the prices are uninformative, out of date and seldom accurate , and the text that accompanies it is copied and pasted out of previous evaluations of months ago. I just skip right over it now and don't even waste my time.

I'll agree with that assessment, it is however valuable to understand if a seller is using the excellence pricing guidelines to price a car for sale.

POSTED 10 MONTHS AGO IN 2007

In my opinion, a generalized view---Because the World and the USA are in uncharted waters regarding the health of the economy, and the illness of the financial institutions may not be fully disclosed yet, no one can really predict the future of the Porsche common car market. As the US dollar falls against other World currencies, we are in an inflationary situation where our money falls in value and the stuff we buy goes up week by week. It may be that the value of the 911 is underpinned by the foreign buyer with a strong currency. However, they can only buy and export so many cars and as more cars go on the market from distressed owners, prices may tumble like housing. ------- Also, with the price of crude oil at all time highs and continuing to climb, the 911 may fall from favor as a daily driver, this is a growing reality.--------Bleakness expressed, I am looking to buy another 911 at a discount of today’s value with a 5 year investment break even or profit. But, as the market dries up, I will have a car I may not be able to afford in a decade. IF I am wrong, the plan is to keep the buy as cheap as possible to keep loss at an acceptable one. Only spend what you can afford to loose, not only today but in 3 years depending upon how grim things get.

POSTED TODAY 2008

Rereading my thoughts of about a year ago, I think I got part of it right and part of it wrong. The economy collapse World Wide is more severe than I thought, oil plunging to lower prices, and the US Dollar and T Bill shooting up like a sky rocket against the Euro, should be situations to soften the 911 prices from a year ago. However, the markets that I follow which is 911SC and Carrera 1982 thru 1989 in the area of Kansas City and Denver South to Houston, and East Texas West to the Pacific Ocean have not changed that much as far a advertised prices. I don’t know about the actual prices of the transactions. Also, the number of those 911s for sale has decreased dramatically.

I really do not understand the decrease in 911s for sale UNLESS this market was a prophet of things to come and the distressed owners were indicators of underreported news. Whatever the reasons, there are fewer 911s for sale now and the prices appear to be fairly stable------ indicating that strong hands hold them. I have put off the buy of 911 # 2 for a while. Like many others, I feel like a deer caught in the high beams.

I would appreciate the views of those smarter than I am as to your take on it.

Very true, I don't understand how Bruce can continie to copy and paste that stuff year after year. The text hasn't changed in 4 or 5 years, or not so you would notice, and his pricing isn't realistic even compared to Black Book's CPI.

Or when they're trying to sell their car.

Off track, but how come many, many people use the word "loose" in place of "lose"? Is it just a typo or is there another use that I am not aware of? Just an observation. Probably the word I see misused more than any other.
