Hello,
I've found a set of alluminium sill protectors at what I think is a fair price: £62 delivered
![](http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh23/nicklouse10/Random/doorsillprotectors.jpg)
They are listed as fitting a 912, 1965 - 1973
I'm hoping someone can confirm that these will fit my 1980 SC?
I really like the look of these!
cheers
Nick

thanks guys,
measurements check out... looks like they will fit.
the originals are black rubber, but I prefer the look of the Alluminium ones.
Only difference is the Ally ones have screw holes for mounting and the rubber ones are glued down instead.
will post a before and after photo once they are fitted
cheers

I would be interested to know if you find rust under there anyway Nick.
I was shocked to peel back the rubber and find surface rust where water had been pooling under the rubber while washing. Guess I have my winter project now.

peeled back the old rubber ones last night and sure enough, there is some surface rust starting to take hold under there! glad I caught it when I did.
so that'll be me sanding, rust treating, priming and painting this weekend![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
have been thinking about the mounting holes on the new plates.
Don't really want to drill new holes in the car to mount them, so was thinking about gluing the plates in place (like the originals were) but also running a thin bead of clear silicone around the edges to weatherproof them a bit better than the originals.
As for the holes, I was thinking about taking some stainless button headed allen key bolts, dremmeling off 95% of the threads, leaving just enough thread to locate them in the mounting holes, then fixing them in place with some industrial strength adhesive.
either that or perhaps some small black rubber blanking grommets would work to fill the holes.
Not sure which one I'd prefer the look of.
any other suggestions more than welcome.

Just an opinion but trying to seal something like those plates off from the elements w/ silicon sounds like a recipe for disaster. I understand not wanting to drill new holes and even attaching your new plates with adhesives (either gun or tape) that could be taken off later but I'd skip the silicon.
Moisture WILL get under there and needs a way to breathe and get back out.
Just my $0.02

Well i would do exactly as you suggest about the screw heads. you want tot apearance maybe of screwed down but holes are bad . Also definitely stick them with double sided tape so they can be removed. Sills are a weak area , you have caught it , as i have done, don't take the ability away of fixing it again. Skip the caulking.
i am worried about puling more paint when i pll the strips, did you use a heat gun Nick ?
also i was going to go the POR19 method , treat and paint. I don't think body colour touch up is critical as th are is completely covered but we wil see.

still havent got round to fitting these. where does all the time go! ![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Your advice about the silicone / caulking is sound, and I'm definitely going to avoid it, the sealer... not the advice
Will just use tape to secure them. I have enough worries about rust with living in Scotland, without adding to problem!
I've offered up some modified screw heads in the way described above, but I didn't really like the look, so I think I'll go with black rubber blanking grommets. I think the black / ally contrast might look quite good. Will post some pics as son as I've fitted them. Can always change if it doesn't look right.
