Default 944 guy looking at a 911

Hi guys I am looking at a local 911 on ebay and I was wondering what I should look for? The ad is very bare so I plan to go look at the car.

Here's the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3AIT&viewitem=

If the car appears to be a basket case please say so!

Thanks!

Oh my, a Targa Soft top, it may leak. I wonder why the seller has not taken pics of the under carriage.

He has updated alot of things but they did not wear too well.

"Anit Lock" Brakes? I did not know they made anti locks back then.

If I may sugges,t get Peter Zimmermann's book, it is the guide for future 91 owners. Not too expensive.

my 2 cents.

It looks kind of rough in the pictures.

When I look at a car, I always look at the condition of the car. If it has been well cared for, then I investigate further. This car hardly looked like it was cleaned before pictures were taken. That lack of attention to me translates into an owner that may not care for a car like I do. Tread carefully, and yes, PPI.

It's always concerning when someone is posting a car for sale with 9 month old photos... makes me think he's been trying to unload this thing all year long....

OEM is rare. That one is a aftermarket job, it will most likely leak and/or be very noisy. Not to mentionfield of view has been hampered.

This guy should have converted to a true convertable.

I was unaware that the SC even had a soft top (ie, rear window zip out) Targa. Car looks butchered to me.

Well, I am a 944 guy that added a 911 earlier this year too, so I know the feeling!

Not too excited about that car. The boxed rockers are unfinished at the ends and I would be cautious about rust - this car has been repainted (lots of overspray visible in engine area). However, the addition of the "soft" rear window is what would give me greatest pause.

However, that is just opinions based on sketchy info. It may actually be a lot better, and of course, PPI!

I'd bet it's a LOT worse in person . Someone's just looking to find an Ebay sucker imo and unload a POS...

If the drivetrain is half way decent it would make a nice parts car but at that price there has to be some type of issue.

Dude,
unless you're very close by, I woudn't bother. Those boxed rockers look like they're made of cardboard. There is no such thing as a soft window SC targa. WTF is up with the clutch pedal? can you say busted helper spring?, out of adjustment, surprised if it works!! I believe the world would be a better place if everyone had a 911...... but not at ANY cost.... The price is attractive, the car is not. It will look worse in person. I would think of this as not gaining a 911 but losing $7500.00.
