Post RS America tail

Just bought on e-bay what I was told was a genuine in the box 1993 RS America tail kit from PAP Porsche. Was told it is correct and proper spoiler to fit my 1991 C4 to update to a RS America body look. It was advertished to fit 1989 - 94 C2/C4 and 1984-89 911's. However when I went to put in on my 1991 C4 the grill opening on my deck lid is larger then what the base is on this RS spoiler to cover up! Have I been taken my PAP Porsche? Will a 1984-89 deck lid fit my 1991 C4? I paid a lot for this spoiler thinking it to be genuine and correct please help.

Alan,

Porsche used the 84-89 Carrera spoiler for the RSA. It sounds like you may have bought the 84-89 Porsche spoiler kit (don't know if they market if for the RSA), #911.512.909.00. It looks like this spoiler is supposed to sit down inside the hole where it bolts up, with a beading to go between the part that sits on the body and the body. Are you saying the entire base fits inside the C4 opening?

I'd contact PAP and talk to them about it.

Alan, Just added an RSA wing and decklid(both factory) to my '91 C2 Cab. When looking at this originally I seemed to find out that the C2 decklid would have to be drilled to accept the wing. I decided to keed the original electric wing and decklid intact, as I thought it had value as a package to sell or to replace if I sold the car. I just took some rough measurements having both units in front of me. It appears the wing base is larger than the electric wing opening. Therefore I beleive the wing could be mounted to your decklid, however you would probably ruin it for future use without the RSA wing. In my research I do remember someone telling me that the earlier decklids would work. But I'm not sure. Hope you got all the fasteners with your wing as I was amazed at the number of fittings when I disassembled mine for painting. There is a rubber bead between the wing and the decklid. Hope this helps. Roy Eames

Alan,
The opening on your decklid is bigger that the opening on the pre 89 911s. your best bet would probably be to buy and early deckild and remove yours intact. that way you could either sell your present lid or reinstall it at a later date.

Thanks all, sounds like I need to get a 84-89 deck lid. Will I need to do any modifications to the lid to fit my 1991 C4? Thanks Alan

Alan, My install was not a direct bolt on. The mounting holes on the decklid were about 1 inch wider on each side and one of the holes in a slightly different position. I used a 1 inch aluminun angle about 6 inches long to adapt the original bracket to the decklid. Remember mine is an RSA decklid, not sure of the pre '89. There is also a factory bracket available to make this a direct bolt on. Sorry, no part #s or pictures. Roy Eames
