Default Head Light Relay Kit SUCRO vs. JWEST vs. Performance Products

Hey all,

Just asking for opinions on the relays. Are they the same in reliability and performance?

Sucro is $28 delivered max wattage 130 ea.
Jwest ( Pelican ) $25 plus Tax & S&H max wattage 100 ea.
Performance Products $9.95 plus Tax & S&H, no info

TIA,

Jim

Hey Abe,

So did your lights get brighter? What wattage are you running?

Thanks for posting

Default Well, I can't tell you because I did two changes at once.

I added the relays but I also changed my standard headlights which were the US sealed to Hella Vision Plus Halogen lights (also sealed while keeping the US look)....and WOW. This is probably best anwered by someone who already had Hallogens either US or European and added the relays.

I just installed the JWest relay kit 3 weeks ago.

Love it, factory stock looking and my lights are much brighter, maybe 10% to 15% brighter, I have the H5 lamps though on my 87 with i believe the stock 55/60 bulbs.

Best mod I did yet.

I have the Sucro relay kit and I'm satisfied with it. I soldered and shrink-wrapped the connections. I believe the JWest kit comes with crimp connectors.

Like Doyle, I solder all the Sucro kits we use and some of them use 100/150 watt H4bulbs very successfully.

Good stuff,

Good stuff,
While on the subject of the upper wattage H4's,...did you change the wiring to larger diameter? I've not yet done the calcs on this,..(there are others who have...)...just curious,..in your case.

Best,

Doyle

The cars receiving those high-wattage bulbs were redone with 10g and 12g wire to minimize voltage drop at the bulb connector.

Yes, I agree, you can just use an old BMW relay and some wire. it's not rocket science, and it's the number one mod all Carrera owners should do. Also on 356s.

My Buddy just measured his lights and found a 1 volt decrease. He is placing relays on his lights. I guess me too
