Rear Shoulder Harness In 911s Possible?
With a child to protect, I was wondering if its possible to install shoulder harnesses in the rear seats. Those rear seats only have a lap belt which does not protect the little one's upper body's from flying forward and possibly hitting their head on the seat.

Hi,
I put rear anchorage points into my 76 911 using information supplied by an auto engineer.
I used a 4" X4" plate 1/4" thick with a seatbelt nut tac welded to the center underneath. (obviously with a hole through the plate)
After making the bolt hole in the rear parcel shelf I riveted the plate (bolt down) on the engine side. The rivets coming from the top. (inside the car) the rivets hold the plate in place when you take the bolt out.
I hope this helps.

Thanks psycho.
I'm not sure what year they started putting in belts, but some of 89s I've seen in pictures have shoulder belts. Your mod sounds good to do if I get one w/o.
What year came standard with shoulder belts?

I believe 87+ came with rear shoulder belt; 84-86 coupes and targas have the threaded mounting point in the rear deck under the sound padding - just have to swap out the outboard lap belts for shoulder belts (and cut holes in rear deck to accommodate belts.

I believe that the coupes and targa went to lap/shoulder in the rear in 88. This is one of the items I wanted in my 'new' 911 I got late last year. I am pretty sure I remember an 87 I looked at not having shoulder belts, but the 88s and 89s did.

Another option is to buy a full set from Professionally Engineered Products. They offer replacement belts front and rear, as well as kits that let you install rear belts.
For 1969-1977 the reel sits on top of the parcel shelf:

From 1978-on the reel should fit below the parcel shelf. The kit comes with the Grade 8 hardware needed to fasten the reel down after drilling a hole through the steel. It also has a trim piece that you use to dress up the slot you need to cut in the rear upholstered panel:
http://www.peparts.com/Detail.bok?no=60
The above link says coupes, but I bought a set for my 1979 Targa, and it fits under the shelf like the photo of the coupe. Call them; they know what they are doing and can tell you the best way to go, and if they have a kit for Cabs.
One problem might be drilling the hole. I think you'll need a right-angle drill to get the hole installed from the inside, or remove the engine and use a regular drill to come up from underneath (what I did).
