Default Need reputable alternator seller/rebuilder in Toronto

Earlier this summer, I pulled my alternator and had it rebuilt by what I thought was a good rebuilder. I was wrong. The alternator is now sending out voltage spikes, exactly like it was doing before my "rebuild".

I'm thinking I should just buy a new alt to avoid this trouble again. Or, if someone can recommend a rebuilder who is 100% reliable in the GTA, I might try it again.

Anyone?

why not go back and see if he will honour his work . IF it was only the beginning of the summer he should, sounds like a regulator issue. What kind of car is it and what year ?

Why not just replace the Voltage regulator for $50. My volatage was spiking to 17 volts and this was fixed my problem The rebuilder may have used a chinese instead of French voltage regulator. It is held in with 2 nuts so you can pull it out and take a look at it.

Check your trunk for battery acid leaks that have been caused by overcharging.

Depends on his year of car , he could have an external voltage regulator. Looks like he hasn't even been back since the original post

Why not just order one from Pelican or its equivalent? Last time I needed one I had it in 48 hours.

'88 911 Cab. I think it's an internal regulator.

The reason I don't want to go back to the guy is, I don't want pull the thing again, reinstall and then have the same problem - ie. I don't want to pull the alternator 3 times. Twice is enough. I'd rather just besmirch his reputation online.

I think for $350, I will just order a new one. The labour (my time) just isn't worth the $250 I'd save on a rebuild if I had to do it again.

Just to be sure, can anyone think of anything else that can cause these spikes other than a bad voltage regulator? The voltage is fine at idle. When I rev the car, the voltage jumps to around 18v.

The internal is replaceable also. My car was upgraded to the 1982 style alternator with the internal voltage regulator and i replaced it.

Definitely sounds like a regulator issue , but also could be a ground issue as this is critical in setting biasing levels for the regulator. I guess wew ill find out soon enough
