Default Quick Trans. repair question-shift rod cover plate gasket

I've have a fluid weep from the cover plate on the bottom of my transaxle. I went ahead and ordered the new gasket, which I'll replace along with a fluid change in the next couple of weeks.

The question is, if I remove the cover plate with the trans in-situ, I get no surprises?

I believe it is simply a cover, but I don't want the fork or something to come springing out with the transmission in place. I've never gotten past replacing the pilot shaft seals when it comes to the trans.

Hey Ed
No worries, I took mine off just because i was curious. However i think you have to drain the fluid first :-). Has leaked ever since. The real question should be do you use sealant with it or do you put it on dry ?

PS where did you order your replacement from ?

Thanks, I figured it was just a cover.

I'll probably smear a skim coat of 574 on the gasket. Got it @ Pelican.
