Check the cruise control cable linkage as it attaches to the throttle. Mine recently came loose and stuck the throttle open at 2000 rpm. Id tap on the accelerator and knock it back into place... If its loose from its connector...you can just attach it back on with some twist ties.

bpp944, if the car is the 89 911, you need to ensure that the outer sleeve of the cruise control cable (cable housing ) has not broken off of the back portion of the nut, where it attaches to the bracket . This is located just to the rear of where the cable slides in/out of the housing. I found that when I accelerated, the housing (having broken off) moved with the cable. What this did was allow the housing (outer cable sleeve) to move back and with 180degree bend, catch on the side of the nut area it broke off of. This prevented the outer sleeve from going all the way back inside the nut area.

Hence, I was on the gas real hard and the thing stuck full open. I managed to shut it down, but scared the crap out of me. I was in heavy traffic at the time.

One of the things we check during tech inspections here prior to an autocross, is to make sure that cable & sleeve is all hooked together, so this won't occur on an autocross course. To fix it, I found about 6-8" of fine wire and wrapped both side together so they would not move. The ultimate fix is to get a new cruise cable at a cost of $165. I took the easy way out. This may not be your problem, but I'd check it anyway for safety sake. LOL.

-Spider911, Thanks for the advice, it'll be helpful when I get a chance to work on it.
