"79 911
As a 951 owner, and might have the opportunity to "cross over".Ther is a 1979 911 at a sheriff's auction. I've always liked the look of these but know nothing about them, and there isn't much time for research. The posting doesn't give any info, just a '79 911 to be auctioned. The poor picture may show a "wale tail',so just some background info would help.Engine problems ? Rust troubles ? Etc.

If some sort of PPI is impossible (not allowed) I always advise to go, look, but put a seriously low limit on yourself regarding what you might bid. That car can have rust (even though it's a galvanized body) due to use in harsh weather conditions, it can have broken cylinder head studs, and it might need a $4K trans repair. Consider what you might spend just for the grins and giggles factor ($2500), but if you can't get the car inspected don't go much higher. It might be a diamond, but odds are better that it's coal.

Thanks for the reply. I also think that a "low ball" offer would be a good thing. Kind of goes against the "no such thing as a cheep Porsche" rule. I was able to get the vin# but haven't had time to research it. Any help would be appreciated. vin 9119211422.
