The tail & lid are painted and ready to assemble. The chin spoiler is on - completion pictures to follow when the car is together!

...and thank you, sir, for an accurately represented part(s)! We decided, as you can see, to go all red rather than black out the grille section. My body shop guy has a tremendous sense of what looks good, and what looks really good - I trusted him on this one and seeing the tail done this way I already think that he was right; that this would look really good!

...and I almost forgot, look what we were able to score! This was necessary because using the original lid meant welding closed the SC emblem holes, which meant that the underside of the lid needed to be painted as well. During that process the emissions sticker was destroyed, so I took a chance and ordered a new sticker. I never dreamed that it would arrive in an old stock (very old stock) bag with the pictured part number tag. It's so cool I don't want to put it on the car!

Remind us. What year car are you putting the lid and tail on?

Thanks, Rice

Rice: 1982 SC coupe - dead stock except for Euro ride height, until now!

Doyle: You will not believe this - Porsche's warehouse inventory showed one sticker in the country and this one's it!

Scan that sticker before you put it on so you can share and some of us could make repro's. If that is not illegal or something.

That's a good question/suggestion. I know that some decals have been reproduced (356 valve adj. specs, etc.), but I have no idea if they have to be NLA first, or if other rules exist.

Pete

I feel better about being an **** retentive Porsche nut now, I added an Aerokit to my 996 and just installed all the factory stickers to the new rear deck lid, I looked at many cars and sticker placement is kind of inconsistent. So I used my old lid and a local GT3 for a template as well as some pics off the net.
Nice to know I am not alone

#1: Insert the rubber lip studs along the back of the tail
#2: Wrap and pull the lip around the sides
#3: Verify all studs are ready for hardware
#4: A pretty picture

Pete, where did you end up getting your front chin/lip?

I bought a new one, along with an install kit, from Performance Products. The rubber part is beautiful, but the kit was disappointing - silver washers and regular nuts, rather than gold hardware + nylok nuts. I had enough new 6mm nyloks in my hardware bin to do the job; I didn't feel that tightening a rubber part using regular nuts was a good long-term solution.

CHRIS: Thanks! Our weather cooled off for a couple of days (mid-90s), but it just got hot again (100F +) and looks bad for the weekend - not sure how much I'll be able to get done...
