Default 81 euro good buy?

There's a broker or a consigner selling this car where I take the family for ice cream. So tonight I thought we would walk down and take a look at it. The sheet in the window had on it 1981 911 euro 3 liter 240hp and 34000 miles. It had the whale tail, body looked garage kept, Interior looked like a 7. Red with black interior. I have a 89 928 I know what to look for with this car, But the 911asking price seems to be very resonable for this What could I be getting into Even with a ppi is this a car to get

I would spend a considerable amount of time UNDER the car if it is a European version. If it spent a lot of time over there before its gray market importation it probably was exposed to excessive speed and a lot of winter salt.

Hate to ask (since you didn't include it in your post) but what is the asking price? Any chance of photos? Does the car have a full service history? Would the seller agree to an independent pre- purchase inspection? I am not sure exactly which motor parts were different, hopefully someone else will chime in...

Good luck either way!

Paul.

I was looking at it after hours The passenger door was unlocked so I unlocked other door to climb in. Times are tough in Michigan but the low millage on the car makes it look like a bargain Had to ask the kids what mom would think If I brought it home I have a 928 and know what type of money you can get into, But when it comes to parts for a 911, Porsche made so many of them, they have to be as affordable if you call it affordable

Might be a good deal, depending on the results of a PPI and what the wife says!

a 27 yr old 911 (gray mkt?) w/ 34K mi & a "7" interior?
on the mileage... prove it!
expert PPIs are called for, not just the mechanicals... chassis / interior / history.
have fun!

I just looked at the car on their website and I would definitely agree about the "7" for an interior. The driver's seat look pretty tired for a car with only 31 000 miles and the rear seats have been reapolstered with a fuzzy looking cloth material. I also noticed that the fog lights are "recessed" like the '84-'89s and not the free standing style from the earlier SCs. Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh though... As other have suggested I think a PPI will be more revealing into its past history and condition of its mechanical components.

I can't find the site, even tried adding an "er" after the "k"... ??

FYI: Horsepower for a Euro (RoW) '81 SC is 204, not 240, and the mileage might be impossible to trace without a documented history. Does the speedo stop at 85 mph, or 160 mph?

Well, let's see. Both doors, including jambs, and the inside of the trunk (including gas tank) have been painted - color change? Resurrection from a parts bin? Looks like a Carrera dashboard. No seal on the roof, for the sunroof. This car could be a rolling nightmare for a buyer who has to meet emissions regulations - it will not fly in CA!

Is it me or are used car dealer websites with classical music a bit much. Could the miles be correct for when it was imported?

Interesting centre armrest. Also, are the gas tanks suppose to be painted the body colour? I don't recall mine being the body colour.

PS, that is not a whale tail but a turbo tail.
