Hey guys,
Just wondering what some of you guys keep with you in your cars in case of an emergency repair, like belts, hoses, oil, tools etc.?
I currently have original tool kit, jack and motor oil in car and my AAA card.
thanks, leo

Belt, some fuses, DME relay, the tool kit, air compressor, cell phone, VISA, flashlight, fire extinguisher, first aid kit including protective gloves, bently manual, the jack, quart of oil, a few tie-wraps, some duct tape. I think that's about it.

+1 on the belt, although I needed to get a 1/2 in. box wrench for the A/C compressor in order to move it out of the way for a recent alternator belt replacement.
I'm new like you Leo, so I'm copying all of this down.

I also have mushroom tire repair kit for flat tires....just in case you are in the middle of nowhere and everyone is closed. This is actually an essential item in my new Targa without a spair.

What is DME relay, and why do I need a spare?
I heard fix o flat is no good, it works but ruins the tire, is this true?
Belts are all same size for alternator and fan?

DME relay is a relay that is found under your seat. It is known to fail over time. Almost all owners of a DME equipped car has a spare in the glove box.
Yes, fix a flat car ruin a tire but it will get you where you are going, at the very least the tire would have to be reblanced. If your 20yr old spare tire that has never been inflated doesn't work....then it is cheaper to ruin a tire than try to get a tow truck in my mind.
Also, there are other 'emergency' items to be carried if you are going down isolated roads and isolated roads in the winter.

Fix-A-Flat is better than nothin'. It dawned on me a year ago that my virgin spare will no longer fit over my brakes. So it resides in a corner of my garage now.

I thought the spare tire is a safety feature to absorb some of the impact in the event of a front end collision.
