VR: The Peachstate Region of PCA does a lot of activities at Road Atlanta, so I assume that they're close to you. Call Scott Lawrence at (678) 596-7266 and see if he can provide you with a copy of the mag...or maybe get one on loan from a member.

Well, Peter, I am finally onto a Carrera that is really nice and but not cheap. The jitters got me (you know how cheap I am) and I decided to pull out your book and read it for the 10th time. I just put it on my desk to start reading and wanted to thank you for creating this buying Bible.

I agree. As a regular freelance contributor to a couple of mags (911 PWorld, Total 911, etc), not to mention my book Hunt for 901, I always got the high hat from Panorama. The magazine blows. To say it. Pete you hit the nail on the head, it is written for a few who are flown, on Porsches dime, to exotic trips and the racing scene.

I pitched articles about living with a P-car everyday. Getting a friend to buy a P-car. Maintaining a P-car yourself. All too pedestrian I guess as I never even got a response. And I am not a hack writer out for a lark. This is my paying job.

For the money spent on Panorama, and the money generated, the content is disgustingly weak. And not represented at all of the P-car culture in general. I'm a member, but I get all my enjoyment from Rennlist and Pelican where the content is free. Mrs. Betty Jo Turner should take note. She is quickly losing the younger generation.

Thanks Peter. I called Scott and left a message.

I do need to get a schedule of the local PCA events. I would like very much to drive up to Road Atlanta (45 miles) and watch them. Due to vintage racing, my track budget is already stretched beyond its limit.

Glad you guys liked the article. I've always felt that Pano is a club magazine and should serve the members. I'm not a fan of the wine and cheese articles. Some people love them, I'd rather read about cars and their owners. Probably why I love reading the 356 Registry magazine.

Whomever said that the local region is really PCA is right on. Fortunately the club has many active and diverse regions. While the wine and cheese stuff may not appeal to some, club racing and DE doesn't appeal to others. The club is big enough to serve everyone.

Things are going to be changing in the future.

I drive a 90 964. To me, it's my 'new' Porsche. At the VIR Club Race this past weekend, a woman came up and said "I love your old Porsche". I thanked her for the compliment, but it was almost as bad as saying "I love your receding hair line"

I recently read that the numbers of water cooled owners in the PCA have passed the air cooled owners as members. Maybe PCA is trying to cater to these owners of newer cars but I think they are missing the boat with Pano content.
I HAVE let my membership lapse. This after many years for the same reasons Pete and others mentioned ...where are the "regular" people??

Sounds like a great article, though. Anyone care to host it and put up a link?? I LOVE my SC!!!

I'd really like to read it. I am looking for a 911SC coupe or 1984-1989 Carrera (coupe) and would find this article interesting. Anyone have a 1988 Club Sport FS?

P/S I enjoy a good California red and Coors Light.

I've been a PCA Member for over 27 years, and one of the things that I found crazy this year was going to Sebring and the price of admission to park in the Porsche Corral. I know that certain Regions host local events but I thought this was kinda of crazy. The Peachstate Region does an outstanding job during Petit LeMans and respect goes out to all Porsche Ownership no matter what model you drive. Times do change but alligiance to the Make does not; By the way the August and September issue of Excellence had some really good articles that should be read. Thanks Pete for starting this Thread;

It was a pleasure to talk with you. Let's meet at the car show in Marietta on September 7th (Sunday at 8:00 am as I understand it).

We need a few Porsche cars to show that Cobb County crowd the better sports cars!

Vintage Racer & wpriller - There is a DE at Road Atlanta this weekend (8/16-17), come on up and say hello, I'll be #86. Scott Lawrence (#7) always carries a mebership package with few extra copies of the Pano for prospective members. If you think you will be there, I'll let him know to bring a few. Website is http://www.peachstatepca.org and has event schedules and lots of other info.

VR that's a beautiful car by the way!

Thank you very much! I received the copies of the article (in color, nonetheless ).

This must be destiny. Just after studying this article and re-reading Peter's book (The Used 911 Story, if someone has been living under a rock ), someone called me about a 911SC FS.

The car is a local car, and I have an appointment to see the car tomorrow morning. It has a few issues so it is certainly a "hobby car" as described by Mr. Schrager.

It just so happens that I attended, as a spectator, the NASA race last weekend. I've raced in that group in the past so I knew many of the racers. I meet one the the "organizers" of C&O while both of us were checking out this dead-fast GT3 Cup car that simply ran away from the field in the Sunday race.

Anyway, the C&O guy had this drop-dead gorgeous 1988 Carrera 911S. I was photographing his car when he walked up. The guy that rode up with him knew a lot of people that I knew. (long story, short)

Andrew,
I do plan on driving up. It is a small world. I happen to live two doors down from the Peachstate Concours Chair (Bob K.). Bob and I have a Porsche sticker on our mailbox. I happen to know that our neighborhood has nine Porsche owners (I walk the neighborhood every day, for exercise).

I do want to talk to you and Scott. I would like to get involved in PCA track events. I graduated for the Road Atlanta Driving School in 1990 (before Mr. Panoz bought the facility). I have competed in vintage racing since then. I have over 2000 laps at RA. I have 71 podium finishes without one citation of "aggressive driving".

My car is in this field (in the back ). We line up 60 cars and go to T-1. Here (Sebring):

I did attend the Brian Redman event at Road America in 2006. I barely missed this disaster. I understand that track events involve some risk. But this is just stupid. I can't afford to destroy my car and hope that PCA would not allow any aggressive drivers to be on the track.

I'll be around all weekend. I don't think I have a student for this event, so just look for my Silver '88 Carrera Cab #86, and I should be nearby. I know Bob well, I'm the newsletter editor and he owes me a coucours article by this Friday Just don't tell him I won't be looking at it until Monday. -Andrew
