Default '76 with slantnose conversion

I just started looking into getting an older 911 and ran across this:

http://www.foxvalleymotorcars.com/19...sion-c-972.htm

It's a 1976 with a slantnose conversion and supposedly a new engine. Haven't had a chance to talk to anyone at the dealership about this, but what's everyone's opinion on this? Why would someone convert a 70s 911 to have the slant nose? is this a car to stay away from? Anything in particular I should look for if I go to see the car? Not sure how common it is to do a conversion like this.

Thanks, travis

welcome aboard!

neat looking car...2.7 twin plug on PMOs would be fun but i wouldnt buy it...especially for the $ they are asking. its bastardised and for that money you could get a much newer car

2 simple rules:
- dont buy the 1st car you look at
- look at and drive as many cars as you can

oh and get yourself a copy of "the used 911 story" by the honourable Peter Zimmerman

there are a few threads on pre-purchase inspections (PPI) and on i thing by Pete zimmerman which should keep you occupied for a while

good luck!

All four corners are fiberglass. The rocker panels and damn are also. Bamboo hut interior. End of story. look for the next car.

Travis, there are lots of reasons to stay away from that car. first off I love the slantnose when it is done in steel to a 3.2 or 3.3 tub. a 2.7 is wrong on so many levels.

and it's Peter Zimmermann's "The used 911 story" that you want to pick up. You will find here that original is a good place to start.

Lot of money spent to get the body right, however for that amount of cash they're asking for you could get a slightly modded 930. I'd say keep looking.

Remember if you have a slantnose and turbo tail people will expect turbo performance.

It would make the base for a nice track car if it was in the high teens.

Looks nice, but if it's all fiberglass then that's not so good...
Engine sounds tempting w/twin-plug and seems to have some other kind of engine-mangement w/separate coils, but those huge 19" wheels would still slow it down by the gearing alone.

Very quickly as it is 5:00 here

if it were steel you wouldn't have fitment isues like the gas cap and filler hole or be able to see the glass fibers.....more later.

the gold car is the real deal.

the white is a conversion done in Germany out of steel....big diff.

I have a picture of me in a DP935 Targa that was taken '87-'88 that started this whole slant thing for me. Just after I got my stock '88 cab a guy two streets down shows up with his all steel conversion ROW 930S cab in GP white. Bastard paid $16,000 cause it didn't pass smog some 10 years ago when the previous owner imported it from Germany.

Ask Steve Weiner about his DP935 drive back in the day next time you are talking suspention....

Marc,
for free? I will sacrifice myself to take one of them for free too

Doug,
Sorry about no pic bro. In fact, if I really need the memebership, I can have one available but I don't really use it now.
I didn't like SN either, and don't like convertible too, and I'm still not sure why I own this SN now. First time I saw pics, I was "umm... red, convertible, and SN... too bling, too Hollywood". but then I saw it in real from the behind, looking at the fat butts, I was "It's mine". Test drove it around the block, up and down the hill, a friend of mine said "If he doesn't take it, I'll take it". Then my mouth just automatically produced some words "I'll take it"... I "blamed" on my wife, who supported me to go look at the car . Here are some pics:
PS: the yellow speeter looks way too beautiful.

Oups, sorry. Wrong one. Here it is
