Default DME Relay Tools Req'd

Ok, for the record, what do I need to toss in the car to accompany my spare relay to swap it out? I'm packing for a road trip to the Taj Ma Garage this weekend. I've swapped it once after getting the car, seem to recall... 1/4" drive socket, maybe a 10mm? Just figured I'd ask rather than start futzing around under the seat last minute.

Damn, you're good Clive. I'm PRETTY sure I have a mini-maglight in the 911, but will confirm before the trip.

I don't know why, I just have a sneaking feeling i'm going to break down on the way to / from.

No Tools required brother on the Road, but once you're home you should bolt down the new DME Relay.

I think it was a 10MM socket

+1 on flash light

Mine just lay there, all I need is both hands to unplug it. But some are bolt down, so you might need a wrench or a socket as Draco said.

I replaced mine (keeping the good "original" as a backup/spare). As previously posted, for a roadside "repair", just plug in the backup and go (make it permanent later). IMO, it would be prudent to familiarize yourself under ideal conditions (i.e. your garage) before you have to do an emergency swap...in the dark without a flashlight .

now keith i completely agree with.

I practised with my belt till practically i could do it blind folded .. good job to as i needed to once.
started carrying one of those LED "headlights" as the mag was useless when trying to work . best thing I ever did. try alligning your shims in the dark while holding your shims, your pulley , the nut and your flashlight all at the same time.

not pretty

If you have locking wheel nuts don't forget to take the wheel nut key. My sister in law forgot to take hers on a trip to France, got a flat tyre and was immobilised for two days whilst she waited for her mother to courier the key out to her!

That's why I don't have like, $6,000 wheels - I hate locking nuts.

I assumed there was a grounding effect in it being required to be bolted down, that's why I figured I'd just toss the socket in the car for the trip. Flashlight added to "must bring" list.

Thanks guys!

Good idea. Replace it before you go then you dont have to worry about it.
