Question Used 930 Cooler Just In...Questions

To solve my overheating problems i wanted to replace my trombone with the popular carrera fender cooler. I purchased a used cooler an 89 930 and after closer inspection it looks a bit different that the carrera coolers posted on Pelican and in 101 Projects. Are the 930 coolers different than the 911 Carrera coolers?

Main differences:

1)Front Stone shield is rivited on and does not come over the oil line inputs.

2) it does not look like the optional fan (that I would also like to fit) will mount as there are not holes on the rear to mount the bracket(s) to.

3)I can't find a part number stamped on the cooler, but a tag thats attached says 930-107-942-00, which is also different.

Help Please........

Charlie,

The Turbo oil cooler you listed is one for the slant nose Turbo, which also has a fan, but it looks like it may attach from the bottom, not in front of the cooler like the Carrera fan.

Bill,

Thanks for the reply.

I just you can never assume . The cooler itself looks a bit different also. The
back right of the cooler looks to have a little
sheetmetal appendage that flares out a bit....this is
why I dont think the fan will fit, as the other side
does not have this contour. Kind of hard to explain
w/o pictures.

I brought the cooler to work to compare to a friends,
so we'll see.

BTW: I do not have the fan yet, but will attach a fan
when I install the (a) cooler.

2 More Questions:

1) Will 2 fans fit behind the carrera cooler w/ 4
mounting brackets
2) Are there any cheaper (less than $250) aftermarket
fans that will readily fit w/o modification.

Charlie,

I don't know about fitting two fans. On my 81SC, I had an Earl's cooler in the front right fender, and fit an SPAL fan, the largest that would fit, maybe 7.5"? Fan should run you around $75, I'd go to Racers Parts Wholesale whose website is http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/.

Thanks again Bill for the info.

I took the cooler down to Porsche Bob and he confirmed that the cooler is for a Slant Nose 930. Its interesting as this cooler mounted almost at a 45 degree angle due to the slant nose config not having the clearance to mount vertically like the 'normal' 911's. It would fit otherwise as all the mounting points are identical but I think I'm going to try and get rid of it at the swap meet next week as I cannot mount any fans behind it are no mounting holes/tabs. It's definitely a rarity as he's never seen 'one of these before'.

Anyone looking for an original Slant Nose cooler....let me know

-Charlie
