After market AC Electrical Question on '74
My AC suddenly quit working while driving to work, and I discovered that the compressor clutch is not getting power to engage. I think the system is a VPD or VPC, typical of the dealer installed aftermarket units of this era, and now has a has a Sanden rotory compressor.
The only relay I know of is mounted close to the fuse panel just in front of the gas tank, but seems to control the blower motor only, and can get pretty hot when the AC is running. I here these relays areprone to failure, but I replaced mine a couple of years ago and barely ever run the system.....only in rain as a dehumidier....so it doesn't have a lot of time on it.
Does any one know if there is another relay somewhere that controls the clutch, or is the compressor wired directly to the blower switch?
I am also interested in any other suggestions as to where the problem might lie before I replace the switch.......its a PITA to drop the underdash unit for access.
