Post Broken Spring Plates

Any one have any pointers on what could cause the spring plates on the rear of an SC to break?

I'm looking at a '78 that has visible cracks around the spring plates. The suspension has around 200K miles on it.

Hmmmm, 200K miles and/or track use? Hard to tell, can you snap a picture and post it?

I've never seen that happen before. Is it the torsion bar tube welds that are cracked or the plates themselves??

Weird.

Could it be that I might have just run into something similar to this, not so severe...my suspension has around 100k on it, spring arm bushings were quite worn, seemed like the top mounts for the spring arm cover bolts had actually bent down to accomodate the wear...is this possible? After another 100k could that actually break the frame? Just an idea...I hope thats not it!

I will try to get a pic, it looks like the spring plate it self is broken. The mounting bolts and plate the go through are fine, its the raised portion of the spring plate (call it a collar) that is cracked (most of the way around on the driver side).
