Default Baffling idle...have searched topics...

Greetings....my idle is acting weird again...My car was idling crappy, and would die intermittently until warmed up. So, I cleaned my ICV, and then reset it via the PCA website instructions. Seemed to work. Car IMMEDIATELY ran smoother, and ran several days without dying. Now, it's starting to die again, but the idle is still much better than before. Is this a symptom of a dying ICV? I let it sit there and idle, and heard a 'woosh', then car died...starts right back up. So, I reset the ICV again...to see if that will help. Any ideas??

Your previous posts indicate you have an 87 Carrera, which do not have any adaptive learning capabilities. The is nothing to reset so the PCA instructions are wrong. The smoother running is likely a result of your cleaning of the ISV. If your car starts and seems to run rich, check your head temp sensor values when hot and cold. If they check ok, the intermittent shut offs you are experiencing may be the result of a a failing DME relay, which can be resoldered, or just replaced. You also want to check and verify that you don't have any intake air leaks that need fixing. Engine starting fluid spray works great for this. With the above checking ok, you'd need to do a proper base idle speed adjustment, and base idle mixture adjustment to have the car idle correctly.
