Right you have parallel arms which are NLA, and to replace you update / replace with the cross-arm style IIRC - drilling, complete replacement from memory. That's one reason why I figured I'd give the silicone a shot... and in my case, worked.

Well, if PPI's done, and you're working on the car, pics are now mandatory.

Good luck!

84 Carrera,
So, you used silicone on the parallel arm window?

Yes, where the glass sits inside the rail at the bottom only, careful not to get any on moving parts.

This worked for my issue, your mileage may vary, see store for details, yadda yadda.

DRACO,

He is not a buddy and I have not met him. However, the car has been sitting in my garage for about a week. I found it on the car lot in which he had just dropped it off since he was driving the recent purchase home. I saw it and asked about it and was referred to the owner since the car lot was not selling it. The owner said to drive it. I actually asked if I could take it home because one big hurdle was the wife, a ppi and financing. I parked it in the garage and my wife came home so I took her for a spin and she was pretty cool. PPI came back with a quote from the head mechanic of "You got yourself a good find." (There are some things I need to do - high beam headlight out, blinkers don't work, the window problem, couple of chips in paint) . He is actually going to finance it for me. It is a great story. I have been looking for cars for two years, driven a 72, 84, 86, 91, and a 2001. This is in my price range, has a whale tail and one of the years that I most like. I like the air cooled engines.

Thanks, Rice

If the window is binding going up and down you will need to correct the problem.

It could be as easy as lubing (silicone lube spray) and I have heard of people using baby powder on the window felt tracks. The felt may also need to be replaced. It gets old and swells.

I did not see if you said coupe, targa or convert. There are adjustment points for the window also.

Good luck moving forward on your purchase.
