Default To rebuild the alt or not...

A little previous experience... At one time in my childhood I learned and practiced rewinding and rebuilding heavy amp alternators for boats, aircraft, firetrucks, what have you....
I was going to take pictures of re-building the alternator on the '75 and post them for everyone - and then I took the alternator apart
One of the other things I learned in life was knowing when to say "I could, but I won't - I have enough projects". It's not like being stuck out at sea and no other options.....

After looking at the 30 year old stator insulation - mostly missing and brittle at best, testing the diodes and finding 2 out of 8 were bad, and the slip ring wear being beyond servicable turning...
Lets see - I could spend 8 hours hand winding a stator... or work 3 hours to pay for a new one.......
I bit the bullet and just bought a new one....
So - when your alternator looks like this - be glad it gave it's life to the cause
