Default Stereo Head Installation Kit

Hi, I've got an '89 cab with a CD220 stereo installed from a boxster which has packed it in. I want to replace it with a standard stereo head with USB so I can play and charge my Ipod without using up my 12v outlet (yes, I love the sound of my car too, but I am about to head off on a 2,600 mile road trip and I would really like to have some radio and music capacity for the trip). The problem I am finding is the lack of off-the-shelf face plate/DIN kit, the shops I have spoken to tell me I need a custom unit, which they are happy to provide for the low, low price... you get the picture. Anyone know where you can buy a kit? Thanks,

I don't get it, head unit install in a 911 is the easiest of any car I've ever worked on. There's no custom face plate. afaik

Thanks for the response. The issue, as I understand it, is the stock unit installed is wider (and perhaps longer) than a standard stereo unit, thus the requirement for the face plate.

Jerry's right, I have a standard DIN Nakamichi CD400 in mine, no issues, nothing custom.

+1. It's a standard DIN opening. I dropped in a Blaupunkt with no problems. It's a very easy installation because underneath the dash and behind the radio are wide open. No custom kit or faceplate required. The shop is trying to separate you from your hard earned cash. Go elsewhere.
