I am super excited!!
Today I put a deposit on a very clean, unmolested '85 (Prussian blue, cork leather). This all came about pretty quick, but thanks to experience looking at other Carrera's over the past few years and especially Adrian Crawford's guide and Peter Zimmerman's book, I was prepared to do a thorough examination and test. There were a number of people looking at the car, and the price was very fair, so I had to move fast.
The engine is beautiful and the transaxle (915) shifts suprisingly well actually. The synros are smooth. The car was a southern car until it was imported into Canada last year. The current owner is an enthusiast (this is his fifth P-car and he is getting a 993 Cabrio now). All the numbers match and everything looks as it should. the underside is exceptional and the paint is very good (and original). The only major cosmetic blemishes are the leather on the dash top and rear shelf, which has shrunk and warped. I can live with it for a while. Beyond that, there are only a few things to set straight. Many important things, like the clutch and oil lines were done in the past two years.
Overall, I'm really pleased with it! (I pick it up Monday.)

Congratulations! I grew up with my fathers 1988 Carrera; learned to drive on that car, any track time I accrued was with that car too. A fine car in all regards. I now have a 944 and have been contemplating the move up to a 911 or 964. I swore I'd keep my 944 all year but someone today saw it, got hot and bothered, and agreed to the stupid price I named. Let's see how this plays out. I'm jealous, good luck!
