Post which brake pads?

I know its been discussed before and I have looked at the archives but can anyone give me some suggestions re: replacment brake pads for my '87 911?

I do a few DE's per year so I'd like to go for something other than the OEMs but not all the way to the Pagid oranges. Im looking for a "universal pad" / happy medium that will allow me to use the same pads for street and the occasional track session.

THANKS! for any comments good and bad re: specific pads for this car as well as sources to buy them from.

Hi Dan:

IMHO, you simply cannot go wrong with Ferodo
# 3410 or DS 2000.

The former is an OEM replacement and the latter is a street/track pad. Both are low dust, and easy on rotors. Both work great from cold-to-hot.

Dan, I, as always, would give a great deal of credence to whatever Steve suggests. I am about to put the Ferrodo's on my car, but I have also heard very good things about the Poterfield R4S, very similar to the Ferrodos and suitable to your tastes. Stay away from the Hawks, they eat rotors and there have only been mixed reviews on EBCs. Some like the Mintex reds, but I had a set on another car and the wet braking was awful, I would have to literally "dry" the pads off before they would brake. Changed to Pagid OEMs and was fine.

If you want to send me a private message I can give you a line on a great supplier, who is a good friend of mine, for the Ferrodos. I don't like to "advertise" on the site, so if you are interested just drop me a line.

Not to confuse the picture, but the Pagid Blue pads are incredible. I use them on the street, for autocrossing and the occasional DE.

I don't have experience with the Ferrodos, so I have no idea how they compare, but the Pagid Blues have worked wonderfully for me in a similar application to what you are asking about. '86 911.

Don't know if I'm too late here, but I like Performance Friction (97 compound). They are noisy on the street, but I have not used a better pad for DE. Very good stopping power, modulation and they wear well and seem to be rotor friendly. I used to used Pagid Orange until the price went through the roof!

Another choice in the street-OK-for-DE are the Peformance Friction "Z" rated pads. I used these when I was starting out in DE, and was pleased with the improvement over stock pads both on and off the track.

I am leaning toward the PFC Z compound. any others with comments on what pads to use? I use my highly modified motor and somewhat modified suspension mostly on the street. I drive hard. I do auto-X and will do DE once I put a roll bar in.

Steve W. Can youi compare the Ferodo and the PFC?

(One side note, I would like to have less dust. My arm is getting tired from polishing the wheels.)
