Question DMV Inspection - mileage reporting

Took the Targa in for her annual inspection.

I am lucky enough to be able to drive the car into the shop bay myself, inspectors were petrified of driving the car themselves for fear of causing damage.

Well it passed with flying colors with a warning about replacing the rear "slick" tires soon

After I got home I was looking over the paperwork and noticed that he put the mileage down as 86,400 miles, correct mileage is 96,400.

It shows mileage as of 4/30/07 as 93,900 and on 4/30/08 86,400.

So that means per DMV I have driven negative 7,500 miles last year.

Do I need to worry about this or should I put the car on jackstands and run the motor in reverse for a few days

I looked at my carfax yesterday, it doesn't show any inspection numbers or mileage since I bought it. I think that varies state to state. And louisiana is backwards to begin with.
gimme your vin and I'll look if you want

Time for your odometer to take a trip to North Hollywood....perhaps it was the times before that they got it wrong.

Bad doug, bad. I'll go to my corner.

Jerry,

Thanks for the CarFax info - now I have no need to worry

It appears that NC DMV does not report registration and inspection information to CarFax.

Did you check with the N.C DMV, to ask them if they report the mileage, or if carfax obtains it from public records? Or, contact carfax and inquire from them, whether they get reports from N.C. or not. If they do, it just might not have made it through the system. I didn't want to see you get your hopes up, just to have them smashed, at a later time by a future purchaser, if they do actually get the data, but is just not there, yet. Tony.

I'll double check with Carfax and DMV

The weird thing is that the last posting on the CarFax report is the emissions inspection with the prior owner in VA 2 1/2 years ago.

I just have a safety inspection.
