911 Dash / Interior Kits

I recently purchased an 82 911 and it came with a vinyl dash kit installed (wood effect). I think it looks pretty cool but am thinking about changing it to carbon fiber or brushed aluminum.
This is what my interior looks like.
Has anyone else done this? Does it look cool?
What do ya think?
Rip it out?
Try carbon fiber or brushed aluminum?
They used one of the crappy kits that uses 3M adhesive and promoter to glue the parts on, instead of the good vinyl product that is easy to remove without damaging the original surface.
Now I think I am looking at a destructive mess to pull it all off. That's why I am thinking of doing something else over the top of the wood.
Would anyone else ever consider carbon fiber or brushed aluminum interior kits?
All feedback is welcome...
Thanks.

I think the brushed aluminum would be super cool !!
Thanks for all the great feedback. I think wood is for burning, not for a sports car interior. Brushed aluminum it is...
I'll keep posting my progress and everyone can see how the brushed aluminum comes out.

IMHO, and I mean no disrespect to you courtc2911, but I find the wood panelling in the 911 hideous. I would take it all out as carefully as possible as to not destroy the leather underneath and go back to original spec.

If you want to remove the old wood look, it will help to heat it up a bit with a heat gun. A little heat will soften the tacky tape. If there is some tape left a little adhesive remover willl help out then condition the vinyl/leather so the remover does not dry out the leather. If you have any questions call me at 928-453-8140 I own an auto upholstery shop and can answer any questions.

why not go save yourself a bundle of aggro and go straight over the top of it?
no danger of damaging anything of you do that and I bet it's easier to peel it off and reposition it during installation if you're going over the old stuff, rather than over the original facias with all bits of old glue clinging to them.
Cheers
