Window tint
I like my car but the last fellow tinted the windows. I feel like "pimp daddy" when I drive around. I guess the back window can be stripped but I am not happy with the thought of ruining the defrost wires. What are odds that the wires will be severed? I am not worried about the side windows. Is it better to take it to a shop that does tint and tint removal? Regards, Pimp Daddy

Oh, yeah, take it to a specialist. It is a miserable job, I've done it a couple of times - never again! The wires might still be a problem, but they should be able to save them.

I have a little electric steam cleaner that generates a contant blast of steam like out of a tea kettle. That might do the trick. It would prbably soften that tint up and loosen it so that you could take it off without hurting the wires. You are welcome to come over and try.

I was able to peel the film off but most of the adhesive was left behind. I used goof off to remove the left over adhesive.About a third of the way in I asked myself what the F was I thinking can't turn back now.

I owned a 3-Series BMW a few years ago, its first owner thoughtfully did the rear quarter windows and back window in Limo-tint. Unfortunately, the tint used was not rear window radio antenna friendly, so I thought, "this can't be too bad." I had the same problem, the film came off pretty easily, the next two days were spent in the rear seat area (on a 2-door coupe) getting the glue off! I still hurt just thinking about it...

Yup Pete, I know what you are talking about. That is the same way my 7 is. Luckily the tint used is the antennae friendly type and it looks great with the Sterling Silver paint. I would hate to attempt to remove it myself!

I don't think that window tinting is necessarily "frowned upon." As a practical matter, if you normally operate your 911 in an area that doesn't have much shade (e.g., Southern California, Jerusalem, etc.), window tinting might slow down the effects of the sun on the interior and make the cabin more comfortable.
I have read some complaints about tint on the rear window making it more difficult to see what is behind you. In some places (e.g., the People's Republic of California), it is unlawful to drive a vehicle with "any object or material" on the "windshield or side or rear windows" (Cal. VC 26708(a)(1)). There are exceptions to that rule (e.g., rearview mirrors, side windows to the rear of the driver, rear window wipers, the rear window if you have sport mirrors, sun shades if you carry a doctor's note, and tint that has a minimum light transmittance of 88%).
Other than that, I think that whether to tint or not is a question of style and taste. I have never tinted the windows in any car that I have ever owned. I also never bought a car with tinted windows. If I did, I might just leave the tint on them unless it started bubbling. I have friends that have and their tinted windows didn’t make me think any less of them or their cars.

In california you need a doctors note to drive using the sun shades?!?
I planned on tinting the window, but certainly not limo style! From the above posts i started getting the feeling that tinting an SC was sacreligious... Thanx for bringing me back to reality

I had my rear window and the two rear quarters tinted while the glass was out. She did a really nice job. In Summer the sun is ruthless down here. I would prefer no tint but tint kills alot of the UV so it's here to stay.
Down here we can paint all windows behind the driver if we want, but the car must have two outside mirrors.
I've been looking into a clear tint I've heard of that is claimed to stop alot of UV. If such a devil exists I'll be putting it on the front screen.

I'm leaning towards the tinted rear 3 for sure. Still debating on the sides, probably will do them the same as my Mercedes sedan. Never had a problem and they are not very dark. If the install hadn't been good, i would be unhappy.

Here's mine w/ a hand-applied rear-glass only sheet of tint I bought at an auto-parts store... Not glued, not professionally done, easily removed, effective at cutting down interior temp (easing the AC's job) & UV fading of interior. Haven't bothered to do the rear side glass...
