Default brake fluid gunk

I would have asked on pelican but ...you know So my freinds celica clutch was seized up and it ended being the super old fluid in it. We flushed the system and cleaned out the master cylender which had much black gunk on the bottom. This was back before the winter. I just now think to myself i bet the fluid in my car hasnt been touched in at least 6 years. I look in the mastercylender and sure enough i got black gunk in there. So im going to flush the brakes and remove the resivour and clean it out before i get problems. I guess im wondering whats the standard interval for a brake fluid flush? I thought i read somewhere that racers flush theres every DE or 2. I assume standard Dot 3 is what i should use?

You should be flushing the brakes every 2 years for street use,................

People who are racing or doing DE events flush the brake system a lot more often.

Use ATE Type 200.

...and keep an eye on the reservoir after cleaning it. If the fluid starts to get dark quickly, it's possible that the seals in the master cylinder are failing.
