Added another Porsche to the garage. I'm pretty excited.

Brett: Please make the living arrangements we spoke about earlier...
Zenith (C) carbs have round, black, painted air filter cans with removable tops held on using two clips.
Solex (SC) carbs have oval, wire mesh air cleaners, each held on using five bolts with 10mm wrench size heads.
If the carbs were replaced with Webers (hope not!) all bets are off regarding the air filters.
The only big-bore kit that I can think of that's probably OK is stuff made by Shasta, not sure what sizes they do. I'll be curious to learn more!

Air filter covers are of the black can variety. Perhaps still the original Zeniths, but then are they appropriate for a larger displacement engine?
I'm starting to realize how little I know.

The Zeniths are wonderful carbs! Perfectly adaptable to big-bore stuff because the port sizes were probably not changed, and the compression and cam lift/duration are usually left close to stock.

Don't want to be a buzz kill and it realy ain't no big thing but the COO is from 1967 and its a 1964 car. You might be at least the 3rd owner. Start hanging around the 356 registry if you want to learn. There is a lot of good info. C cars are starting to bring some pretty good money. Two years ago I was out visiting my family and went with my brother to pick up his Andialed 930 rocket at the shop in Riverside and as we were walking through the lot I pointed out a really clean B car that was in for some work. Long story short he now owns two 356's(one is the car from that day) along with the 930. I'm still looking for my 356.
They are great driving cars.
Cheers

Congratulations Brett! You may want to get in touch with Rick Johnson..
I introduced you to him at the Porsche Parade. He did a full restoration on his Speedster.

Congrats on the new to you 356. My good friend has a '64 356C cab...and the car is perfect in every way....except it is not a coupe.
I am jealous...I would love to have an old 356 coupe. (Outlaw with a flat6)

added 4/6/08: I have to correct myself. I spoke with the previous owner again. The Virginia purchase was another car. The 1967 title is due to the original loan on the car. He paid it off in '67 so that's when the title in his name was issued.

Brett, you lucky so-an-so. My dog (Scout) and I comb the alleys in my area hoping for a garage or backyard find for a 356. It is my lifes mission. Just last week I found a garage door open loaded with 60's Japaneese trail bikes, go figure. My neighbor bought a 62 coupe three weeks ago he found on Graigs list in Escondido. So they are out there.........jus gotta find em'. Come on baby......daddy needs coupe.

Mr Z, it is a silver coupe in so so condition. Much to his dismay I have pointed out some rather uncomfortable issues I find not so pleasant, bad body work. With some 1/2" thick frosting on the fenders and cowl. This is what happens when one looks at a car and does not take an extra pair of eyes.
