Default Engine Lid Won't Open - UPDATE

Background: '84 Carrera, fairly new cable, orginal latches.
Went to open the lid and it won't. Thought I was stuck. One of the suggestions was to have some one pull the T-handle while I pull up on the lid; that worked.
Upon closer inspection I found small hair line cracks. (see photos.)
On flange portion "A" I got my needle nose pliers and squeezed the flange a little. After doing that the engine lid pops right up. So i guess its time for a new latch. Notice the cracks on "B and C".
Thanks for your help everyone.

I don't know if it is just the optics on the second photo, but it looks like the actual shaft is also bent.

Slant: Good eye. Actually I don't know if its bent or not, but it does look bent in the photo.

The reason I think it appears to be bent, may be an optical illusion, due to the way the collar is worn on that one side, and the damage to the bottom piece also. It looks like something was not lined up correctly, to cause the uneven wear marks. Hope you get it "straightened out" sorry about the pun, not really intended, it just "fits" the situation. Good luck!! I'll be here all week!
