Default Help! Peter Z!!

Engine lid won't open.
I have 84 Carrera and went to open the engine lid and it won't pop open. What do I do? Some time ago I did replace the cable, but the latch is original.
Thanks in advance.

Have a friend pull up on it while you pull on the release lever. Mine sticks sometimes too. I have long arms, so I can actually perform both actions if I'm desperate.

Pete, I have heard gripping the rear deck lid and moving it form side to side often releases it as well.

My tried-and-true single person method is to hit the upper left hand corner of the decklid with the bottom of your fist while pulling on the release handle. 9 times out of 10 this works. Otherwise, find a helper to give it a tug.

Gentlemen: Thanks.
I got my young son to pull the T-handle while I tugged on the lid - opened right up.
Maybe I should consider new latch assembly.
Thanks again.

C'mon Chris, you know that works 10 out of 10 tries!

About the cable/latch. Make sure that you have the rubber spacer correctly installed under the T-handle, and that the adjustment at the latch is correct. When that's done, use a flashlight to watch the upper latch pin as you slowly lower the lid into place. The pin should be centered in the lower latch hole as the two mate (adjustment is done by loosening the two small bolts that secure the pin plate to the lid). Sometimes a pin length adjustment is also needed, but let's hear if everything else is OK first.

Would lubrication help to alleviate this problem? If so, what is the proper lubricant?

A little white lithium grease on the pointed part of the upper pin can help, but this is a release issue, not an engagement one, so no, it's usually adjustment.
