it's merely a coil so it doesn't matter ... but for the sake of protocol ... the circle with the v on it is the white wire and the other one is the brown ( like you have it )
PS clean that thing up :-)

Pin 1 goes to ground. Pin 15 goes to pin A of the CDI box.
It will NOT run properly if these are reversed.
You didn't mention the model and year of the car. It helps.

apologies chaps... this is on a 1980 SC. Think I'll add that to my sig
Iceman, bit too cold for cleaning just now here in 'costa del Dundee' but yes, its a filthy disgrace, a bit like the owner
Is there not a positive and negative side in the traditional sense? I'm fitting a shift light that says it must connect to the positive terminal on the coil? would that be the V or the V with a circle round it?
I probably should have clarified that in my first post, sorry.
cheers

that "v" is actually Bosch-font for "1", which is the ground, or negative, terminal for a negative ground electrical sys. {yes, some of us are old enough to recall that Brit & Japanese cars until sometime in the '60s had positive "earth" (or ground!) systems. increasingly complex & obtuse vocabulary is how experts maintain their power... or wattage, named after some crazy Scotsman} if you want to be absolutely certain of what you are doing, connect a 12V test lamp from the coil terminal 1 to a + source (like the batt's + side) & if the light goes on, you've found the earth. after you've completed the install & confirmed your shift light works (by redlining it?), have a nice scotch, neat, huh?

thanks for the info guys, thats me sorted. Just got to find time to wire it in now.
its a GBTech Sequential Shift light.
4 LED display which give an adjustable shift point between 3000rpm and 9000rpm in increments of 150rpm.
its a cheapie unit, but its just a box of lights that reads revs right, so I didn't think it warranted a lot of money spent on it.
Its a little unit and will mount just under the lip of the dash binnacle above the instruments. very discreet.
